Wizard's Duel Animal Card #
Here is a mockup of a Wizard's Duel card. With my self-imposed no computer production rule I will be using pencils and rulers to do the layout, and colored pencils to sketch the animals, but this one I've put together in photoshop.
Parts:
- At the top is the name of the animal.
- Below the name is its picture.
- The number 1 in this example is the narwhal's sprint distance.
- The number 3 is the narwhal's endurance distance.
- The three squiggly lines tell us a couple things. The narwhal is a water animal. Land animals are straight lines, sky animals are circles. Because there are three lines we can also tell that it is large. Medium animals have two lines, small animals have one. Large water animals have a special restriction, they can only move in deep water - any square on the bottom two tiers of the board that is only blue.
Update: for the card above I used the ISO ratio 1 : √2, which is very convenient to work with because folded in half it replicates itself. Magic The Gathering cards use the ISO ratio. But I decided to go with something more organic. I also needed more room for the picture, and the symbols at the bottom don't need an entire half of the card. The Golden Section 1 : (1+√5)/2 was the obvious solution. Here it is:
